IT'S BACK!

Oh, I shutter to even write the word...

We've been without our dear fungi (or so we thought) for FIVE months and now - IT'S BACK!

Yes, dear readers, ringworm has reared its ugly head (or spores, as the case may be) again. This time on Zoe's & Molly's heads. GRRR! Can I scream now???

I fear it will be our nemesis for life....

  1. NOOOOOO! please don't tell me it can be gone that long and still come back - we are only 3 months free and I thought we were in the clear.

  2. Bonnie,
The sad truth is I don't think it's ever gone. I think we'll be dealing with this for the rest of our earthly lives! Sorry to be the bearer of such bad news.

Okay, maybe not, but it sure seems that way.

I hope you will never see that fungus again!

  3. Okay Barb -- you were so sure that Molly did not have it ever that I let her use my hair brush. What are the odds that I am now going to get ringworm????? How will I reconize it when I get it?? Mom

  4. Mom,
It really isn't as contagious as you might think; however you might want to bleach your hairbrush :)

Don't worry, you'll know it if you get it :)

  5. Barb,

Poor Molly! Her long pretty hair. She is old enough for it to be a tad upsetting. Maybe God is getting her ready for the mission field in the future.

I voted for all of us being treated over here before it hit the head but silly doctors think only those with visible scalp ringworm signs should be treated (same went for the other worms). Our daughter is on her second head treatment and the doctor also sent her home with shampoo this time. I should have all of us use the shampoo a few times. Maybe it has been living on Snickers or the hamster? I think ours was living on a chair. Can ringworm live on chairs? Jeff brought the chair to the dump just in case.

  6. Oh man! Seriously?! I am going to hope and pray we dont see it back in our house again! It's been gone for about 3 months now.
    Not good news to hear.

  7. Okay, Tina, here's the scoop that the dr. told us yesterday (a different dr. than diagnosed us last year). This dr. talked to a dermatologist about how to treat scalp ringworm.

She said that EVERYONE in the house should use the shampoo (you can get a weaker solution over-the-counter called Nizoral) until those with visible ringworm are clear. So, we will all be washing with medicated shampoo even if we don't have ringworm.

Also, Tina, I should tell you that ringworm spores can be carried on cat's fur without the cat showing signs of ringworm. Maybe you should contact your vet to see if you can "dust" the cat's fur with something to kill the spores.

Dogs apparently are different and they get regular ringworm patches just like people, so I am fairly certain that Snickers is not the problem. The hamsters on the other hand - I don't know about them.

I'm going to do some research on how long the spores can live on inanimate objects like the chair or a bike helmet.

I'll let you know what I find out.
