It came to my attention today that I have NEVER blogged about Jungle Jam & Friends! This is a travesty that I will now correct.
A long, long time ago, when Evan was just a wee tot, my dear friend Kate introduced me to a radio program called Jungle Jam & Friends. Now, since our family and Kate's seem to be the only people around who have EVER heard of Jungle Jam, I am taking it upon myself to educate you all.
It didn't run on the radio for very long (for reasons I don't understand), but we purchased tapes of the shows and listened to them repetitively. So much so, that every member of our family can recite almost all 36 programs word for word.
What made them so appealing to us...well, they are extremely funny (and not just for the kids). Talking monkeys, flying squirrels, bears, etc., along with strange creatures called Razzleflabbens and young kids with the last name of Snuffleson make for entertaining listening. Think of them as the precursor to Veggie Tales.
Because we own these on cassette tapes, and because they have been listened to many, many, many times, most of them are somewhat...destroyed or damaged. This makes me sad :-( BUT, guess what? I discovered that you can purchase most of the episodes on CD's now!!!! This makes me happy :-) You can also download some of the programs (for less $)

Just in case you were wondering. I'm typing this while laying in bed with a warm (hot) corn bag on my feet and another one laying next...
Our family also listed to JJ&F over and over. When we took family vacations we would play the tapes forever. Now that our daughter has her own kids we gave her the tapes. Only problem is finding a working tape recorder:) Looking into getting the CDs now. Good times, great values!
ReplyDeleteWe had all the tapes, but many of them have gotten eaten by rogue tape players :-(. We purchased one set of CDs and will soon be buying another set. My older kids recite large chunks of the stories/songs whenever some words trigger them. <3 love them!!
DeleteJungle Jam is awesome! You would probably also enjoy the Life at the Pond CDs of their radio show. Very similar. (and funny)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up. I will check them out. :-)
DeleteI recorded all of the radio shows but I have long since moved away from home and have a family of my own. I'd like to purchase the CDs for my children but am not having much luck finding them. Anyone know where I can purchase the full set?
ReplyDeleteI found one set at Fancy Monkey Studios http://www.fancymonkey.com/Web/JJam/JJHome.htm They own the rights to the series now, I believe. Unfortunately, they are no longer "in print" so they only have the sets it they "come across them" somehow. You can download some of the episodes from their website also.
DeleteThat's all I've been able to find so far :-(
Fancy Monkey no longer produces them on CD, or so I've been told. There are a few single CD's you can purchase, but they are significantly more than purchasing the packages. You may be able to find some of the series if you look on a place such as Amazon. I found one on there, but I am still looking for Even Wilder Times in God's Creation. We have all 3 sets on cassette, but there are pieces missing from being played so often, and they've just worn out. They have also released some new episodes on the fancymonkeystudios.com website, that were not in any of the albums. But they are only available for digital download as well. I really hope that they start re-producing them on CD again!
DeleteCamilla,
DeleteI have Even Wilder Times, the album. I purchased the CD's some time back as a gift and added them to my digital library; now I wish I'd bought all 3 albums but I had no idea they'd be extinct just a few years later.
I'd like to trade you for the digital files of the album you have. Normally, I'd not propose such a swap but under the circumstances ... it may be awhile before they are back in circulation.
If you want to trade, email me at di _ ring _ seven AT hotmail DOT com (spaces added and spelled out to avoid spam bots).
Hallo all, I just read this post about Jungle Jam and Friends. We have only one cassette and my kids love it. I would love to buy more cassette (our car's CD player does not work, so cassettes are the best option for us). I could not find any seller on Amazon or somewhere else. Does any of you have any tapes that do not need? I will buy it!!!!
ReplyDeleteDid you ever locate the cassettes? i have a couple sets, think one cassette is missing. Would love to sell and turn around to purchase CD for grandkids. email bevdalley12@gmail.com
