Conflicted

Anyone else out there feeling conflicted today?  I know some of you are rejoicing over the election (Hi, Mom & Dad - and most of the rest of my family :)  )  Well, I have spent the whole day with a wide array of conflicting emotions.  I wasn't sure I wanted to blog on this because, as I said before, I don't discuss politics on my blog.  This really isn't about politics though, it's more about what I'm feeling - which I certainly DO discuss on my blog, ad nauseam.

So, back to the topic at hand.  It shouldn't be too hard for you to figure out that "my guy" lost.  That would account for the sinking feeling in my stomach, but then there is that other conflicting feeling of excitement and happiness that an AA has finally been elected as the president.  That's a BIG deal.  It's a big deal for our country and it's a big deal for my family personally.  If you don't think it's a BIG deal then I suggest some reading of the history of African Americans in our country.  IMO, everyone should realize that this election was a BIG deal.

The calming influence of my emotional roller coaster is, as always, God's Word, which assures me that God raises up leaders here on earth and he puts others down.  He is still King of kings and Lord of Lords, He is still Sovereign over all the earth.  I'll hang my hat on those truths!

First of all, than, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.  This is good and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.  For there is one God and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, 1 Timothy 2:1-6

  1. Barb, I too am disappointed with how things turned out in this year's election, (and I know you know this) but we must remember that Scripture says GOD does put those in authority where HE wants them when HE wants them. We also know HIS ways are not our ways, HIS thoughts are not our thoughts. And HE does, as your pointed out, ask us to pray for the leaders in authority.

I do not know if you are famaliar with Presidential Prayer Team, but I think now more than ever, our prayers are needed. So I would like to encourage anyone who isn't a part of PPT to take a look and consider being a member. The web address is presidentialprayerteam.org.

Romans 13:1 Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which GOD has established. The authorities that exist have been established by GOD.

Isaiah 55:8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD.

I have had a lot of time today to contemplate things on my drive from Bloomington, IN to Loves Park, IL but no oneto voice them to. I hope you don't mind my sharing my thoughts here.

  2. Trudy,
Share away. It is helpful (to me at least) to write down whwat I am thinking. It forces me to put it into complete thoughts :)

PS I hope you have a safe rest-of-your-trip home

  3. I also got to thinking about governing authorities not just in government but in families as well. Because there is an hierarchy in families. I think that is the word I want. There is the dad, mom and kids. GOD also put this governing authority together and I don't think HE is going to let it be completely destroyed before HIS return.

I also thought that GOD can change hearts. We have been studying Joseph in our Wednesday night Bible study and can't for a minute think that when Joseph told his family his dreams that he did it in humbling manner. I have been involved in family life long enough to think that he may have been bragging. But in the end, after about 20 years of humbling, (by GOD) he knew how to handle the situation at hand, with the country and with his brothers. GOD does change hearts. But again in HIS timing not ours.

See I said I had a lot of time to think and no one to voice my thoughts to.

  4. Thank you for sharing, Barb. As a Christian, I feel convicted, more than ever to be praying for people to not place their hope in another flawed human because we are all flawed! But to realize and turn to the One who is worthy of all our love and admiration.

Though, overnight, many of us have moved from middle class to upper class, which I never thought I'd be able to say. Quite interesting.

  5. just so you know, LT was disappointed with the outcome too. and he didn't even vote for mccain. he voted for chuck baldwin! i think, with the exception of my husband and voddie baucham, the constitution party is about as "white" as it gets! :)~
anyways, all joking aside, i had mixed emotions too. i have been reading that visionary womanhood blog you wrote me about, and i saw a post by rev. baucham on it. i always pay attention to what he says about african americans. something that struck me as very telling was that he himself said something about how now that there is a black president, several black dissenters no longer have an argument. just go look. i'm sure i butchered the point.
