Aidan's visit to the orthopedist was successful, in that she determined that they can get rid of his painful symptoms :-) His muscles are just overly tight and he has a condition called Osgood Schlatter. They told him that they can "cure" him with some physical therapy and some stretching exercises to do at home.
We are hopeful that he will see an improvement soon. He starts PT on Monday. Hopefully, he will still be able to run the Milk Run with me at the end of August :-)

Just in case you were wondering. I'm typing this while laying in bed with a warm (hot) corn bag on my feet and another one laying next...
I have two daughters with Osgood-Schlatter... I would say "cure" is not going to happen. But they can make it "better". And if he has that lump on the knee from O-S, that baby is there to stay. O-S is really common and there are some therapeutic brace/knee band type things that help some... I'll try to think of the one we had the best luck with (my girls were competitive gymnasts for years) and send the link to you.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Paula!
DeleteI feel bad for him.
ReplyDeleteHe's glad to know what it is and that they can help him, although the first thing he said was, "it's going to hurt, isn't it?" (about the PT)
DeleteYes. Yes it is.
DeletePoor guy. I am sorry to hear about this Barb. Will it affect his football season?
ReplyDeleteI don't think so. He's played through the pain in past years, so it will probably not be as bad as it has been.
DeleteSounds like what Ian had when he ran cross country. They never gave us a name for it. But they said his calf muscles were pulled too tight (due to his LONG legs) and weren't able to act as shock-absorbers like they should. Hope the physical therapy helps.
