Last week we were studying the 1930's in history. Of course, this led to a long discussion on the Great Depression, Roosevelt, and the New Deal. Our discussion on the Works Progress Administration (WPA) led to a discussion on what welfare is. I needed to differentiate to the kids the difference between the government creating jobs for the unemployed and the government just providing money for the unemployed.
This conversation caused Molly to make the following observation regarding welfare...
"Well, why would anyone want to find a job if the government is just giving them money?"
Like I said, she's a smart girl.
