Nina and Molly haven't been able to make it up to the cabin in awhile because of their work schedule, so when they found themselves with a few days off this week we decided to trek on up. We had to leave Chris and Aidan at home because of work and school, but the rest of us are enjoying cabin life.
Unfortunately, the mosquitoes are REALLY bad right now. Thankfully, there are no mosquitoes in the middle of the lake!

Random Cabin Pictures
I spent the weekend with seven teenage girls in a cabin. I survived....barely. They're really great girls, but they keep REALLY weird hours...as in staying up until 6 AM and then sleeping until 11:30.
Here's a little photo documentation of our weekend -
I enjoyed a lovely run and some quiet time out on the dock while the girls were sleeping the morning away.
Went for a boat ride
And then a swim
It was a great weekend, aside from the fact that it is difficult to get three meals in a day that starts at 11:30!
Cabin Fun
Spent a few days at the cabin to celebrate the 4th of July. The weather was perfect, the company was great, and the food was tasty. All in all, a wonderful way to relax....except for that little fireworks incident at the neighbors....
Chris showing us how to relax
Emily brought a friend, Shevon, with us. She and Nina relaxed by fishing.
Shevon caught her first fish...EVER!
Molly roasted the perfect marshmallow.
And then retreated to the hammock chair to read. Btw, if anyone knows where I can buy one of these chairs, please let me know!! I LOVE this chair!
Dad showing us how NOT to light off fireworks.
Watching showers of sparks being emitted.
The master of ceremonies.
Plenty of warm weather for a boat ride and swim.
We also brought along my "other" daughter, Bryn - one of those unofficially adopted ones.
Emily showing us why the lake is named Clam Lake.
All was perfect, except perhaps that two hour car ride with eleven people and two large dogs in a van with no air conditioning....

Doesn't every eight year old drink Miller Lite?
(Calm down, people, she didn't really drink it)
The lakes too cold to catch anything, but it's fun to cast anyway.

We Told You Not To Do That
Chris: "Why is your finger in the water, Molly?"
Molly: "I got a burnnnn!"
Chris: "How did you get a burn?"
Molly: "I was playing with fire."

Cabin Opening
We were beginning to think that it was never going to happen, and we even had a few snow flurries today, but we have indeed officially opened the cabin!
We are officially ready for summer to arrive (and stay!). Hoping the forecast for 90 degrees on Tuesday is accurate!!
The spring leaves have been raked...and why is that boy wearing shorts when it is only 45 degrees??
The windows have been washed and had their screens put on...
The boat lift and dock have been put in....after lengthy consultation...
And a poem was written about a stick on the shore.
Back To Reality
Chris and I thoroughly enjoyed our weekend away at the cabin. It's amazing how you get used to using an outhouse in subzero temperatures. You also learn to use bathrooms in restaurants and stores whenever the opportunity arises!
The cabin took about three hours to warm up, but after that it was toasty warm the whole weekend. It was a very relaxing, no-stress time. Too relaxing for Mumford, who was bored silly! She did enjoy a little running and playing on the lake, though.
One of the best parts of it just being Chris and me is that I didn't have to make nutritionally balanced meals at precise times. Yes, indeed! Being tied to children's eating schedules really wears me down!!
Now, no trip to the cabin is complete without a stop here...
where you can find the best ice cream/cheese! If you're ever in Alpha, Wisconsin, you really should stop in to the Dairy. You can thank me later!

Dogs Are Weird
Mumford spent the weekend with her favorite cousin Max. They love each other, they really do, but sometimes you'd never guess it.
One minute they're all friendly...
and then.....watch out, the big mouth is coming at you!
Sometimes they just star at each other,
and other times it's out-and-out wrestling.
Nothing like a little bite on the cheek to say, "I love you!"
But at the end of the day, they just want to snuggle! Actually, Max wants to keep playing, but Mumford was trying to sleep. Max is doing his best to coax Mumford into another wrestling match!
My Happy Place
Last Thursday and Friday were a little, shall we say, STRESSFUL around here. We have entered that difficult phase of home addition called "The Sheetrocking Zone" - that week of construction that includes dust, noise, sloppy messes, more dust, plastic over everything, dust over everything.....you get the picture. By Friday afternoon I was ready to fly-the-coop, so to speak. So, we did!
We went to the wonderful world of the cabin, to spend a relaxing weekend raking, eating, celebrating birthdays, and playing Scrabble. I love the cabin!! It's my happy place! I especially love the cabin when my own home is anything but homey! If I had planned ahead, I would still be at the cabin now, as we have three more days left in "The Sheetrocking Zone." But, alas, I did NOT plan ahead and so, here we are back home.
Since my house is covered in plastic and dust, I'm going to look at pictures from the cabin now! Here - you can join me....
As is the custom of late, we had a themed dinner on Saturday night. This time is was a masquerade.
Mumford got some good quality time with her cousin Max.
And the kids got some good quality time with their cousin Rachel.
It was a great weekend...too bad we had to come home!

Me (with a rather pained look on my face because I couldn't see clearly out of my mask), Raelea, Marcus & Zoe
Joy & Jim with the fanciest masks of all!

And Tonight's Theme...
A few years ago, my dad decided that we should have "theme" dinners when we are at the cabin. In the past this has included such things as sharing your bucket list, naming the cabin, and the always fun Wear Your Hat to Dinner dinner.
This year, Dad (with the help of Nina) decided to have a Dress-up Dinner dinner. Conveniently, this coincided with birthday weekend. My nephew Ian's birthday was yesterday, Nina's is today and Zoe's is tomorrow. So, we had a dress-up birthday dinner tonight, and great fun was had by all.
Chris has declared that he wants me to dress like this while I cook every day. Sorry, but that ain't gonna happen!
Dad surrounded by some lovely ladies
Most of the men copped out on the dress-up theme, but Dad did bring ties for them all to wear.
Can I just say, "I LOVE my family!"
