You might think that after two years that the "bonding" process would be complete, but we are learning that it takes a long time for a four year old to truly attach and trust a new family. As strange as it may seem, a year ago I would have placed us further along the bonding continuum than I would put us now. Not that we have moved backward in the process, I have just become more aware of Marcus's insecurities and fears. The past two years have taught us all a lot :-) This road toward wholeness for him and healthiness for our family is a long road with lots of twists and turns. We see progress, but more frequently we see more that needs to occur. I have no doubt in my mind that when it's all said and done, Marcus will grow up to be a healthy, trusting individual.
I am certainly not despairing. God has been very good to us and He is more than capable of meeting all our needs in this area and every other.
Yea for 2 years! Thanks for sharing about Marcus. With the ages of my blessings to come, (Lord Willing), it is nice to see this in case I (probably will) run into this too. :)
ReplyDeleteI just saw this post when I came on to see the United Breaks Guitars song. I can't believe it's been two years. God bless the Johnson family. Love to you all.
