Let The Countdown Begin!

Amassing an impressive display of self-control, I have refrained from starting my countdown to Dixon posts.......until now!

Sorry folks, I can't take it anymore!  Let the countdown begin!

Last time, it was the Middle-aged Moms' Road Trip, this year it's the Mother-Daughter Road Trip.  In exactly eleven days, Molly and I will embark on our little drive to Dixon, IL for a weekend of adventure, new friends, and amazing music.

Molly has made our official countdown calendar, so we are ready to go!  Stay tuned for the video of the day!

Anyone Want To Come With Us?

I happen to know someone who is selling a ticket to the Gentlemen of the Road Stopover in Dixon (at purchase price).  If you are interested in getting a ticket to this sold out show, contact me.  You won't regret it, trust me!  It is going to be AMAZING beyond belief!

I Almost Forgot!

How did that happen?  I almost forgot that NASA is landing a rover on Mars TONIGHT!  NASA is landing the Curiosity rover on the surface of Mars at 1:31 AM EDT in what they describe as "Seven minutes of terror."

They are trying a totally new approach to landing the rover which involves a giant parachute and going from 13,000 mph to a stop in seven minutes.  This will be interesting!

The rover is tweeting as MarsCuriosity, so you can follow the excitement on Twitter.

Second Choice

We were supposed to start our week-long vacation to the Black Hills this past week, but then children got jobs and football try-outs got scheduled...and our week-long vacation went down the tubes :-(

But, alas, there were other options!  So instead of a week-long camping trip, we opted for a weekend trip to a Minnesota State Park with the subset of the children who were available.  Aside from a scary storm on Friday night, we had a great time exploring Nerstrand Big Woods and we have the pictures to prove it.

Marcus trying to start a fire without matches.  Didn't go to well :-)

Going camping in our family ALWAYS involves taking a hike!  Thankfully there were NO mosquitoes, as in NONE!  Beautiful place to hike, btw.

Hiking also requires the mandatory picture of the kids.

While I was snug in my sleeping bag last night, Chris & Aidan took a dark and scary hike to the waterfall to take cool nighttime pictures of the falls.

Swinging was on the agenda today.

As was a long jump competition.

And another visit to the falls during daylight hours.

We came home tired and smelly, but we had a great time.  After being away from home three weekends in a row, I am prepared to stay home next weekend......and then it's off to Dixon :-)

Oh, Happy Day!

Looky, looky at what the mailman brought me today....

ARGHHHH!!!  We leave two weeks from TODAY!  I CAN'T WAIT!!!!  It's almost countdown time.  Brace yourselves!

Awe Inspiring

I really think you should take the next eight minutes of your life to watch this!

Why?

Well, it's really, really cool, but that's not the main reason. The main reason is that eight minutes is a really short amount of time to ponder how amazing God is.

He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.  Great is the Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure.    Psalm 147:4-5
He knows their names!  Each of them!  Now that is amazing!
