Wait, I'm Not Ready

For winter that is.  I woke up this morning to snow covering everything.  I knew it was probably going to snow today, but I didn't think it would arrive before I got out of bed.  Under most circumstances I love the first snow of the year, but this year the leaves haven't even fallen off of all our trees.  They are taking forever to fall!  So now, I have snow covered piles of leave.  I know the snow will melt, but then I will have wet, yucky piles of leaves to clean up.

Of course, the kids wanted to run out and play in it, but I made them do school first - mostly to give me time to haul out the four VERY large bins of winter clothing items.  Most of the time, I don't notice the difference in having, say, three kids versus having eight, but times like this when I need to get out winter clothes, it becomes very obvious that we have a lot more bodies in our house than we used to.  Well, I haven' t the foggiest idea where we stored several of the pairs of boots.  Maybe there's a fifth bin somewhere in the storage room - hiding.  Our storage room is VERY full and rather dimly lit, so things hide in there quite well.  There apparently is a mouse hiding in there as well, since I found "evidence" of him the other day .

Anyway, I personally am hoping for a nice warm-up tomorrow with a steady wind to dry everything out, so I can get my leaves cleaned up.

Words uttered by Emily this morning. Here is what resulted (a small taste, as most of the pics were extremely blurry, which is a shame because they were really cute).

Conflicted

Anyone else out there feeling conflicted today?  I know some of you are rejoicing over the election (Hi, Mom & Dad - and most of the rest of my family :)  )  Well, I have spent the whole day with a wide array of conflicting emotions.  I wasn't sure I wanted to blog on this because, as I said before, I don't discuss politics on my blog.  This really isn't about politics though, it's more about what I'm feeling - which I certainly DO discuss on my blog, ad nauseam.

So, back to the topic at hand.  It shouldn't be too hard for you to figure out that "my guy" lost.  That would account for the sinking feeling in my stomach, but then there is that other conflicting feeling of excitement and happiness that an AA has finally been elected as the president.  That's a BIG deal.  It's a big deal for our country and it's a big deal for my family personally.  If you don't think it's a BIG deal then I suggest some reading of the history of African Americans in our country.  IMO, everyone should realize that this election was a BIG deal.

The calming influence of my emotional roller coaster is, as always, God's Word, which assures me that God raises up leaders here on earth and he puts others down.  He is still King of kings and Lord of Lords, He is still Sovereign over all the earth.  I'll hang my hat on those truths!

First of all, than, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.  This is good and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.  For there is one God and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, 1 Timothy 2:1-6
